Simple Laundry Room Solutions For Everyday Stains

None of us like to spend money on the clothes to have them ruined by accidental stains. Try these tips in your laundry room and make stain removal quick and easy.

Baking Soda Eradicates Odours

For towels with that mouldy smell or workout clothes which reek and anything else that needs some freshening up – simply dissolve 2 cups of baking soda into the warm/ hot water in your laundry sink and soak the your items. Then wash in cold / warm with your normal detergent on the regular cycle in your washing machine.

Hydrogen Peroxide Removes Blood Stains

Blood can be tricky to remove, soak the area on your garment with hydrogen peroxide for a 5 minutes. Then place into your washer for a cold pre-soak with the recommended type of detergent for your item, followed by washing as per the garment instructions on the tag.

Lemon Juice Banish Rust Marks

Rust marks can be tiresome to get out. Mix 2 teaspoon of lemon juice and 1 teaspoons of detergent and gently rub the stain, once the stain fades then launder your items in the washer machine as normal.

Rubbing Alcohol Eliminates Ink Stains

Your pen leaked or you accidentally put a ballpoint pen through your laundry load. Start by placing a paper towel under the stain, and liberally cover the stain with rubbing alcohol, the ink should start disappearing. Next blot the stain with alcohol and clean paper towels until the ink has been removed, now rinse with cool water then a pre-wash stain remover, and lastly wash the garment in the hot water.

Remember that ballpoint, rollerball and gel are all different types of ink and are required to be removed by separate distinct methods. Know what type of pen made the stain, then  search pen manufacturer’s website for removal instructions.
