Waking Up Early

You read the title and roll your eyes…. I hear you claiming that you’re not a morning person….and I completely understand! I absolutely love my sleep, but getting up early before the rest of my family is one of the best self-care things I can do for myself. Especially when commuting to work, many of us wake up in a franticly rushing through our morning routine then on to the office.

By waking up early and giving yourself an extra 30 to 60 minutes, the tone for your day is set. Whether you spend that time exercising, meditating or preparing a delicious wholesome breakfast – it’s such a wonderful way to start a new day.

I personally love spending time doing yoga and meditating in the morning, then slowly drinking my peppermint tea – I didn’t always have this regime because I “didn’t have enough time”. Once I started waking earlier to give myself that extra precious time, it completely changed my life. Starting my day intentionally with purpose makes me feel like I can handle anything that comes my way.

Try setting your alarm for 5 minutes earlier for a week, then 10 minutes, then 15 minutes until you make that extra 30 or 60 minute threshold. Place your alarm clock on the opposite side of your bed or bedroom so you physically need to get up, not just hit the snooze button. Start the experiment of the extra minutes and explore what’s best for you. I promise you, once you start with less stress and your own intentional time in the morning, you will love it.
