The Wink Factor To Longer Lashes

These days, when it comes to wanting longer Eyelashes, we are spoilt for choice. There are many types of products and services that promise you longer, flirtier Lashes. I am putting two of the most popular Lash services head-to-head to battle it out for your approval. Which one will you choose?

Eyelash Perming

Of all the choices for making Eyelashes look sexy, this is my favourite. Eyelash Perming will make your own Eyelashes look longer by giving them a natural looking uplifting curl. For people who have Eyelashes tend to grow straight out (or even downwards) from the Lash line, a Lash Perm can make their Lashes look double and even sometimes triple the length by simply changing the direction in which the Lashes are pointing. Instead of straight out… the Lashes will curl upwards, showing off the true length of the natural Lash. Team this up with an Eyelash Tint for colour and fullness and you will get a result equally as draw dropping as a full set of Lash Extension for a fraction of the cost! Eyelash Perming is also a good solution for people who have naturally messy Lashes or perhaps have Lashes that grow in weird directions… If you are one of these people you’re probably having an ‘A-ha’ moment right now because your troubles can be over with this simple treatment! The very best thing about Eyelash Perming is that it lasts 2 to 3 months with no maintenance required. As the Perm wears off the Lashes will straighten out plus new straight Lashes will grow to replace the ones that have been permed (if you are that ‘A-Ha’ person then your Lashes will go back to being weird…sorry). Once they are all straight… you can go in for another Perm. The treatment takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on your operator and the products used are similar to those used for perming the hair on your head. Of course, things can go wrong and this is why it is important to go to an experienced and qualified professional. The perming gels and neutralizers can cause irritation and burning of the eye and skin around the eye area if not appropriately applied. The Lashes can be ‘over processed’ causing over-curling, fizzing or even snapping of the Eyelashes if the operator is careless or inexperienced but when done well, and Eyelash Perm could be the best money you ever spent… and it’s slightly addictive. Prices really do vary from place to place but expect to pay around $100.00 in a good salon. Eyelash Perming will always be better value than Eyelash Extensions based on the fact that it lasts 2 to 3 months and that you do not need to go in for any maintenance or in-fills.

Eyelash Exentions

Unlike your regular false Eyelashes that come as a strip that you temporarily glue onto your eyelid, the new wave of falsies are super light-weight, semi-permanent extensions that are individually glued to your Eyelash with a bonding agent; usually a medical grade glue. Lash extensions come in various lengths and thicknesses and although, most commonly, a synthetic Lash is used, you can also get them in Mink or Sable (not a good choice if you are for animal rights!). A professional salon will always conduct a consultation prior to your treatment to make sure that the procedure is suitable for you and to discuss the type of look you are after. Once the appropriate Lashes have been selected the technician will glue them on one at a time until the desired volume is achieved. Sounds pretty straight forward right? Well, keep in mind that the glue that is used can cause irritation or allergic reaction (and could contain Formaldehyde) so there are several type of these glues available for use depending on the clients sensitivity. Also the Lash extension itself can cause problems such as breaking or dropping out of your own Eyelash if the appropriate size and thickness is not applied or if they are incorrectly applied.
You will need to make sure that you don’t rub, tug or get product on your new Lashes as this may break down the glue and mascara is a no-no unless used only on the very tips. Putting mascara on at the base of your Lash extensions will cause them to go clumpy and tangled. Because your natural Lashes drop out due to the normal growth cycle, any extension glued to the Lash that drops out will be lost. This means that regular ‘In-fills’ are need to keep your Lashes looking good; usually every 3-4 weeks. Again, prices for this service vary from place to place and depends on what type of extensions you choose but with the price of a full set anywhere from $150 to $300 and infills every 2 to 3 weeks at around $50 to $80, it’s definitely an expensive luxury.
