Ahhh… New Year’s Resolutions. We all make them (even if it’s just quietly in our own head), yet many of us fail to keep them, giving in to our old ways only months after the last of the celebratory confetti has been swept away. I have been wondering why these self-promises are so difficult to keep and my conclusion is…. most New Year Resolutions are boring ultimatums! Get skinny, stop smoking, start exercising, etc, etc. No wonder we don’t keep them.

So, when it comes to the “start taking better care of my skin” New Years resolution – the trick to sticking with it is to make it exciting, easy and rewarding! Here are my tips:

Tip 1 – Make It Exciting

Go out and buy yourself a new hom ecare product! Even if you already have products at home (but you obviously haven’t been using them if your New Year’s Resolution is to start taking better care of your skin!)… go on and get yourself at least 1 new product. It’s always exciting to try something new. If you are already stocked up with the main homecare products such as cleanser, toner and moisturiser; try buying a serum, scrub or mask to add to your routine. Choose at least 1 super luxurious product that smells and feels fantastic. You’ll be more likely to stick to it if you enjoy using it.

Tip 2 – Make It Easy

Keep your home care simple. If there are too many steps or messy products then you’re likely to quickly give up. A good home care routine should at least include Cleanser, Toner and moisturiser. As mentioned earlier, add a serum, mask or scrub if you already have the basics and need a bit of an inspirational shove however if you don’t have the basic 3 then start with these. Have a chat with your trusted Beauty Therapist… you will find that there are many products that do more than 1 job. So for example you can find some cleansers that are also exfoliants so you are doing two steps with just 1 product saving you both time and money.

Tip 3 – Make It Rewarding

Add some salon visits to your new skin care routine… a nice reward for sticking to your New Years Resolution. Treat your skin to a professional facial at least every 6-8 weeks (but monthly is the best). Mix it up with your treatments so you always have something new and exciting to look forward to. Deep Cleansing facials, Enzyme Peels or Microdermabrasion… these are all good maintenance treatments for your skin. For the more adventurous perhaps Skin Needling or IPL Skin Rejuvenation. Also know that going for salon visits doesn’t have to break the bank. Most salons will offer an express facial or petite treatment that even those of us on a small budget can afford. Also, almost all salons offer special discounts or run seasonal promotions so be sure to keep an eye out for these.

Here are a few of my favourite ‘Multi-Function’ products for a quick, easy but effective home care beauty regime:

Fleur De Mer – Fruit Acid Cleansing Milk

This unique, everyday cleanser also exfoliates the skin with natural fruit acids which loosen and remove unwanted dead skin cells to give you a soft, smooth and squeaky clean finish.

The Yeon – Multi Functional Serum

This 3-1 product is a toner, essence and serum all in 1. Containing 42% Canola Honey extract as well as Aloe Vera, Broccoli and Kiwi extracts this product is formulated to maintain the perfect balance between natural oil and moisture

The Yeon – BC Stick

I’m in love with this product! This innovative cover stick thoroughly and evenly covers up large pores and blemishes with its smooth and creamy formula and bonus application brush. Best of all it has a nourishing core infused with natural oils and nutrients to keep the skin looking supple and radiant. Make-Up that’s actually good for your skin!!
